Trying to get back into open source development

Hello everyone,
I was once an active open source software developer but I’ve been inactive the last couple of years because of college and burnout. I am desperately trying to start again but I don’t have any interesting ideas. inb4 “contribute to existing software instead” - I plan to do that as well. My wish is to start a project that would mainly develop desktop Linux software as that is the field I have the most experience in. The software would, of course, be open source.

So my question is: Is there some kind of software you would like to see? Something that is not available on linux but not terribly complicated (dont ask for adobe suite alternatives heh). Something that exists that you believe deserves another, perhaps a more modern take. Perhaps you have an original idea but no way to realize it.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Hello, We work with Linux (CloudLinux mostly) server environment every day. However, not all of us prefer Linux as an everyday desktop option; partially, thats because some software we love isnt there. Luckily, the state of things has greatly improved over the last five years, and a lot of apps did become cross-platform, supporting not just macOS & Windows. Still, I fail to find a good Linux alternative for some of the apps that I use daily on my Windows machine: - Music player: http://www.aimp.ru/?do=lang&lng=en]AIMP[/url] (Windows), https://vox.rocks/]VOX[/url] (macOS). Recently I signed up for Spotify, so its not a big deal as it was before. But still, Id like to see a lightweight and a beautiful music player on Linux. There are fine Linux music players out there, so maybe Id welcome a well-designed skin for an existing app. - Volume control: https://github.com/irzyxa/Volume2]Volume2[/url] (Windows). This one allows me to control the volume in any possible way. My favorite way to use it by scrolling the mouse wheel on any area of the taskbar. IMO, its a simple and elegant solution to volume control management, and I couldnt find a way to do the same (to volume up/down everywhere on the taskbar, not just near volume icon) on Linuxs GNOME or KDE. - https://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm] FSViewer[/url] (Windows). Id love to see an image viewer that has all those features in one app. Different Linux apps can do different things from the feature list of FSViewer. Based on my check, none of them have all those features in one place. - Calculator (Windows). The default Win10 app has a history of the calculations, which I didnt find on Linux calculator apps. The last time Ive tried KCalc on KDE, it didnt have such an option. Id appreciate it Cant say that those are original ideas, but that what Id love to see someday on Linux systems. Hope this helps.
