Best Settings for DoS protection?

Looking for feedback from other web server admins on best settings for DoS Protection?

i.e. How many simultaneous connections and Check Delay without blocking good IPs.

Im trying 150/20 to see how it works.

Default settings are OK for most cases - do not set the number of connections too low as it might cause some applications to fail (e.g. Filezilla FTP client which opens a number of simultaneous connections for faster upload/download)
