  • High CPU usage when using SSD

    Hello

My problem is a little specific.

I am using 10 core / SSD VPS at Contabo with cPanel and CloudLinux.

I have ~80 accounts on the server and some moderate usage. Generally its working fine, but I have some problem related to I/O usage.

Normally, I have to backup my websites, and I do it weekly. When the server is doing backup, system services stop working and later when I check sar, I see high CPU usage. I also receive notifications about services failure and recovery.

I understand that cPanel default backup eats my ressources, but its consuming all of it, as it is configured to run over night, when there is very low traffic.

So, tomorrow when I ssh to server and start coping all those backups to my backup data space, there is high CPU usage again. Websites are limited, emails are slow, everythings working bad.

So, I guess that my server is too slow for doing backups and even copying backups to another server or directory on the same server.

But I need those backups! Its too risky for me to disable backups.

    Any help?

Just to keep you guys informed.

Cloud Linux support helped me to gather some info with my servers usage and gave me opinion about what is going wrong.

So, I have contacted Contabo support and show them that everything`s ok with my VPS, but NOT ok with their hostserver.

They take a deeped look and "make some adjustments", but they didnt tell me what kind of adjustments. My guess is that they adjusted their hostserver, which was limiting my VPS in some ways.

So, now there are no more high CPU usage and high IO usage on my VPS. Everything is working fine.
CPU steal time is still a little high sometimes, but generally speaking its ok.

Thanks Azizul Islam for your answer. I guess it was a true answer. And thanks for Cloud Linux support. And of course thanks to Contabo for adjusting the hostserver.

I checked everything the SSD has the latest firmware. On TechtalkGroups and Tomshardware, guys are discussing Windows updates and their influence on CPU. How can I reach Cloud Linux support? May SSD cause 90% to 100% CPU usage? Thanks.

                      Hello Myrtle,
Can you open a support ticket https://cloudlinux.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new so we can take a closer look at your system? You can post the ticket number here and well link this thread to it.
                      Thank you.
